The Home Page

Why you need it:

This page is your first impression, so make it count! The home page is also important for SEO ranking, since, more than likely, that’s where the Google bot will start scanning.

What’s important to have on it:

  • A large photo/illustration: This sets the tone and should aim to captivate your VBV. We process images faster and glean more info from them from words. Some studies show that image processing in the brain is up to 60,000 times faster than word processing! Choosing the right image to project the right feeling is super important. Ask yourself a version of the Why? exercise from Chapter 8, but replace Why? with, “What does this picture tell me?” Ask it in a chain 3 or 4 times to get at all the little things that people might notice, subconsciously, about the image. If it still feels like a good image after that, use it!
  • A headline: tells your VBV exactly what you offer but is interesting enough to catch their attention.
  • A short paragraph: (around 300 words) describing what you do/offer in a little more detail. This is important for your VBV and for Google.
